Conscious Living

The Power of Choice

Conscious living is about activating the very thing that distinguishes human beings from all other life forms on earth – choice. It is about presence and choice. Being awake, alert and active in our own life.

Choosing to be awake to what is, choosing to remain alert to possibilities and choosing to take action and what action to take (or not to take).

Sleepwalkers

When you brushed your teeth this morning, which hand did you use? My guess is that you probably used your dominant hand – without even thinking about it. This is more than likely the result of various small subconscious decisions made many years ago relating to the economics of time and energy. Your dominant hand is stronger, has more fine motor control and therefore, can accomplish this regular task without too much output. Our brains are wired to do this for us, which is really awesome.

For everyday banal tasks (like brushing your teeth), this makes sense; but how much else do you do in your day to day life without giving it any thought? With consciousness comes a beautiful opportunity to assess what works and what could work better, to try something new or let something go.

You have dreams for yourself and your life – are you actively living in the direction of your dreams, or are you floating through life, accepting whatever comes at you and making the best of it? Choosing to be awake in the game of life makes turning your dreams into reality, a viable possibility. Anything else is just sleepwalking.

Dreamwalkers

In shamanism, a dreamwalker is someone who works with dreams and travels to other worlds for the purpose of gaining information that can help them.

This serves as an analogy for life. Your life is a result of millions of choices made every moment of every single day. Reflecting, noticing, assessing are required to be able to look at the results you are achieving and make adjustments in order to achieve something else. This is like the shaman who travels to other worlds to collect information.

Creating a dream or a nightmare is in your hands.

So what about fate and circumstance? It is true that natural factors as well as the decisions made by other people, impact every one of us. There are always going to be external factors at play. Conscious living is about choosing your response to those factors, rather than blindly reacting to them.

Conscious living is about owning your response, your stance and your result. It is the ultimate empowerment tool. When everything is a conscious choice, you are no longer a victim to these external factors but rather, the external factors are part of the game of life as you create the results that you want.

Creating is not controlling

Conscious Living is creative, not controlling. This is not about predictable outcomes because we all know how limited that is. Outcomes will always shift depending on many factors and trying to control life is a very bad idea (as a recovering control freak, I know this too well). Engaging fully with life, accepting, allowing, assessing and choosing – this is all part of the creative process of designing the type of life you want.

In the end, it is all about how you FEEL and not about the situation, item or other person anyway. Why do you want the things you dream about? Because you believe that in having them, you will feel a certain way – good, happy, satisfied.

Conscious Living is about choosing to feel these things even in the wanting of the dreams. It is about being aware to every moment as an opportunity to feel the way you want to feel, rather than feeling the way your social conditioning suggests that you should. It is about recognising what works for you and what doesn’t and making the adjustments that are within your power to make. It’s about taking hold of the wheel of your car, rather than moaning about the fact that the car is swerving all over the road and keeps crashing – when you’re sitting in the passenger seat.

Choose…

We’ve all been there – angry, frustrated or disappointed about how things have turned out. The more you actively choose your response, the easier (and even fun) these experiences become! You will find yourself looking at everything around you and within you from a fresh perspective (even how you brush your teeth).

I am speaking from experience here and I know many more like me. We truly are playing the game of life and taking the unexpected as fun opportunities for new discovery.

You’re invited to join in the fun – just choose it. Once you wake up from sleepwalking and start to actively dreamwalk, life really does turn into a fun game-dream and your dreams do start to materialise.

The better you choose, the better you feel; and the better you feel, the better you attract & create.

Choosing conscious living is making the choice to truly LIVE while you are alive, to choose your dreams for yourself, to choose YOU.
